My career began in a manufacturing company, where I became Head of Finance at 26.
Over the next few years, I saw first had what it was involved in a growing business.

I didn't set out to start an accounting practice.

Growth

When I joined, the business was making around £1m profit. By the time I left, that had grown to around £3m.
I led the Finance team, supported strategic planning, and was involved in the company's expansion into the USA.

Challenges

Growth isn't always straight forward. I also saw the difficult side of business - challenging decisions, periods of uncertainty.
I built the financial models behind major decisions, and helped communicate those decisions across the company.

What it taught me

Finance is rarely about the numbers alone. The numbers matter, but they are only useful when they help people make better decisions.

Too often, business owners are expected to make critical decisions without clear information, without challenge, and without someone they can trust to talk things through with.
They have accountants for compliance, but nobody working with them to understand what the numbers mean for the future of their business.

Why I started Figured Southsea

I wanted to bring the financial support, strategic thinking, accountability and decision making support that larger businesses take for granted, and make it available to owner managed businesses.

Not just reports and year end accounts.
A finance partner who helps owners understand their numbers, think clearly about their options, and make decisions with confidence.
